Diver Medical Technician Training

TeamsT delivers quality DMT training through The Underwater Centre Fremantle in Western Australia.
Commercial divers find themselves in the unique position of being far from standard medical care due to the often remote work sites but also because of the nature of saturation diving techniques. This technique makes access to standard medical care almost impossible and it therefore falls to members of the diving teams to act as the eyes, ears and hands of professional health carers.
DMT's are trained in all aspects of pre-hospital emergency care including advanced airway management, haemorrhage control, intravenous cannulation, drug administration and skin closure techniques.
The course is an intensive 2 week program that upon completion awards the successful candidate an ADAS DMT certificate that is valid for 3 years.

Students gain much theoretical knowledge that is supported by plenty of practical, scenario based exercises around the diver training site, working in close conjunction with the dive teams. The importance of teamwork is a large part of the practical scenarios with students taking on the roles of team leader, or medic. Safe casualty handling is an important part of the practical component. We have access to a full range of diving equipment including a wet bell system for use in our scenarios as well as recompression chambers. Also, students are conducted through the Hyperbaric Medicine Unit of Fremantle Hospital to learn about the important work this unit undertakes.
